Q -- Will you come to my house or office to pick up my computer system?

A -- Yes, as long as it is within 40 miles of Grantville. If I have to travel 15 miles or less one-way you will not be charged a pick up or delivery fee. If the distance is between 16 and 40 miles a charge of $25 applies.  I will travel beyond 40 miles but the cost will be based upon mileage at $.50 cents per mile.  I believe you will agree that even that is inexpensive.

Q -- Will you do any upgrades or updates to my computer at my home or office?

A -- I use high speed Internet for downloading software updates, drivers, etc. and most homes and offices do not have the required service. However, I will consider conducting updates or upgrades in an office or business if a high speed Internet connection is available. I do not accomplish updates or upgrades in a home because there are usually too many distractions.

Q -- Do you accept checks or credit cards?

A -- Yes.  We accept personal checks drawn on a local bank; PayPal; Visa; MasterCard; Discover; and, American Express.

Q -- What parts of my computer system do you take with you?

A -- I will only need your computer. However, if you want me to install the latest drivers and firmware for your peripheral devices and you want me to make sure they work with the new updates or upgrade then I would need those devices as well. All components in my possession are checked to ensure there aren't any glitches after the upgrade or updates are installed. You can shorten my visit to your home or office if you have all the manuals, software, etc. available when I get there.

-------------

Q -- Do you have a price list?

A -- Yes, a price list is available. However, each computer is unique and in many instances was built to the buyer's specifications. I buy components at the lowest price I can find and pass those savings on to you. One customer could have multiple viruses or registry problems while another customer could have different types of problems. It would be impossible to provide a price list that would accurately reflect your probable cost. I evaluate your computer and then provide you with an estimate. In most instances the cost will be lower than what is reflected on
this price list.

-------------

Q -- Will you provide a cost estimate prior to installing any components or software?

A -- Yes. You will be provided with a cost estimate and given an opportunity to approve or disapprove all changes to your system.

Q -- Do you guarantee your work?

A -- I guarantee the installation work (labor) of all components and software for 30 days. Sorry, but any
software installed on your computer is not replaceable. I will ensure that all software I install is OK at the time of installation and delivery to your home or office. However, software manufacturer's will not accept software for return that has been opened and installed.

Warranties for hardware installed on your computer is determined by the manufacturer. Pre-owned components are not guaranteed and are sold "as is" unless specified otherwise.

Limited Warranty: All labor is guaranteed for 30 days. Components installed are warranted by their original manufacturers for the time periods indicated. Pre-owned components are not guaranteed and are sold "as is" unless specified otherwise. During the first 30 days from the date of the invoice return the computer containing the defective component to Crytzer Computer Services for free component replacement and installation. After that period the component shall be returned by the owner to the manufacturer for replacement or repair. This Limited Warrant does not apply to components determined by Crytzer Computer Services to be defective due to normal wear, misuse, or abuse.

Q -- Will you need any of my passwords?

A -- If you have a password enabled to get into your CMOS program or to boot your operating system, then I will need those passwords. You should always change your passwords after someone works on your computer.

-------------

Q -- Do you require a deposit?

A -- Yes. A $35 non-refundable cash or personal check deposit is required when I pick up the computer. The $35 pays for my evaluation of what your computer needs. However, if you decide to have work done by me after you receive the estimate then this amount will be applied against any repairs made to your computer.

Q -- Can you provide updates for all Windows operating systems?

A -- Yes, but only for a limited time.
You should update to Windows XP because on June 30, 2006 Microsoft stopped Extended Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me.  Microsoft retired public and technical support, including security updates, on that date.  Also, if you already have Windows XP you should update to Service Pack 2 because Microsoft will stop support for Service Pack 1 on October 10, 2006.

Q -- Do you have the latest Windows XP Service Pack?

A -- Yes, Crytzer Computer Services can update your Windows XP operating system with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

If you want to update your own computer go to the Windows Update Web site (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/). Windows Update will scan your computer and if your computer qualifies will recommend that you install SP2.

If you have any Microsoft Office products (including Microsoft Word) you might also want to go to the Microsoft Office Update site (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx) and check to see if any updates are necessary from there BEFORE you update to SP2. You might need your Microsoft Office product CD.

Is that all there is to it, you might ask. No!  For a problem-free install of SP2, you also have to ensure that all of your hardware (processor, graphics adapter, modem, sound card, etc.) drivers are up to date before installing SP2 and that all of your applications have the latest software updates. If there is a BIOS update available for your computer make sure you also download and install it.

Sound a little confusing? It can be a little intimidating, so why not call Crytzer Computer Services to update your computer? For $65 your computer software and hardware will be completely updated with any software or driver updates and SP2 will be installed. Don't forget Crytzer Computer Services picks up and delivers for free within 15 miles of Grantville.

Q -- What do you know about Internet chain letters and other hoaxes?

A -- Such chain letters were designed by their original authors (probably not the person you received your e-mail from) for the sole purpose of getting you and your friends and their friends to send thousands or even millions of additional e-mail messages to flood the Internet to slow it down. The virus hoaxes are designed to get you to delete important files on your computer. I recommend that when you receive such messages you go to a search engine such as
google.com or altavista.com, or the web site of the manufacturer of your virus software and conduct a search on the subject or main wording of the text. I only install Symantec products in my customer's computers. If you have Norton Anti-Virus or Norton SystemWorks go to the Symantec web site to conduct a search as previously described.

Q -- Do you remove adware and spyware?

A -- Yes, sometimes referred to as "malware", adware or spyware can cause your computer to run really slow, hang up, etc. Some spyware even records your keyboard strokes and sends that data to the author of the spyware. If you entered your date of birth, social security number, credit card number, etc. that information will be sent to the spyware author. If the home page that you originally designated keeps getting changed and you didn't do it, your computer is probably infected. If you have a new "search bar" in your browser and you don't know where it came from look for malware. Additionally, if you have a lot of ad boxes popping up (sometimes freezing your computer) when you are on the Internet your computer is probably infected.

Q -- Do you do overnight repairs?

A -- Reserved only for businesses and organizations, the overnight service guarantees that your computer (maximum of two) will be picked up just before your business or office closes for the day and will be returned totally up to date by 9:00 AM the next morning.  If you have more than two computers arrangements can be made for weekend service.  Refer to Overnight Service.

Q -- What if I have confidential material on my computer? How do you protect it?

A -- There is usually no reason to read any of your documents. However, we do clone your hard drive prior to and after any upgrades or updates so that your computer can be returned to either of those two states if necessary. The cloned images are retained for the 30-day period corresponding to the
labor warranty/guarantee period. A computer services company should never read or retain copies of your files without your expressed written approval.

Q -- What should I tell my children concerning using the Internet?

A -- The following suggestions are provided by the Federal Trade Commission:

  • Never give out your last or family name, your home address or your phone number in chat rooms, on bulletin boards, or to online pen-pals.

  • Don't tell other kids your screen name, user ID or password.

  • Surf the Internet with your parents. If they aren't available, talk to them about the sites you are visiting.

  • Sites are not supposed to collect more information than they need about you for the activity you want to participate in. You should be able to participate in many activities online without having to give any information about yourself.

  • If a site makes you uncomfortable or asks for more information than you want to share, leave the site.
